ABOUT US

The Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies was approved by the Secretary of Defense in 2000 and formally launched in October of that year. The youngest of DoD’s Regional Centers, the NESA Center covers one of the most diverse and volatile areas of the world, stretching from the western end of North Africa to the Himalayas – “from Marrakech to Bangladesh.” Through academic seminars, the Center brings together military and civilian officials to discuss national security issues in a not-for-attribution setting.

About US Still

The NESA Center core programs, such as Executive and Senior Executive seminars and Combating Terrorism seminars, provide the foundation upon which we have built and enhanced our mission.

In addition to core courses, the Center hosts workshops and seminars in the NESA region; Washington, DC; and other cities in the United States. We have day programs such as the monthly Washington seminar and Defense Attaché Roundtables, short workshops and seminars such as the series of Afghan President Election Workshops and Health Security Workshops and Regional Network of Strategic Studies Centers meetings.

NESA's teaching staff comprises a cadre of educators, many of whom have years of government and executive experience as diplomats, military officers and university faculty.

Many of our faculty engage in discussion panels, media interviews and lecture tours.
