Dr. Fariborz "Fred" Mokhtari

Dr. Fariborz (Fred) Mokhtari has been a member of the faculty at the Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies at the National Defense University in Washington, DC, since August of 2002. He had previously taught Political Science at Norwich University in Vermont for nearly twenty years, where he also served as department chairman, director of military graduate studies, and special assistant to the President of the University. His professional experiences include journalism, business management, electoral campaigns, and education of international military officers and civilian professionals. He lived and worked in Tehran, Iran in 1973-79 where he wrote for the Kayhan Group of Newspapers, contributed to an electoral campaign as a consultant and to the prime minister’s office as a press advisor.

Dr. Mokhtari’s fields of specialization include Comparative Politics, Political Philosophy, Public Policy Administration, and Economics. His interests include political economy of development, international security and diplomacy, as well as issues relating to the Middle East and the South China Sea region.
