Women, Peace & Security: Roundtable with Dr. Jeni Klugman

On August 6, 2020 the NESA Center hosted a round table discussion on Women, Peace & Security with Dr. Jeni Klugman and Dr. Robert Nagel from the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace, and Security (GIWPS). The discussion covered the history and work of GIWPS, including the bi-annual WPS Index and their project on assessing the impact of women on peacekeeping mission effectiveness. Gaps between legal reforms and implementation efforts remain a challenge in this field and ways to minimize gaps were discussed. Culture, religion, and political leadership all effect the progress of women in peace and security. To close, thoughts were shared on emerging challenges facing women during the COVID-19 pandemic.
