The sixth digital session of NESA’s IOR Maritime Security Series focused on China’s outreach in the Western Indian Ocean Region. Speakers were Dr. Jonathan Fulton of Zayed University, Dr. Christopher Yung, Dean of the War College at Marines Corps University, and Ms. Carice Witte, Executive Director of SIGNAL. The conversation covers China’s interests in the Western Indian Ocean, how outreach and engagement has been conducted by Beijing, and how the region itself is responding to intensifying interest from China. Mr. Jeffrey Payne of NESA leads the series and moderated this discussion.
