Outside Players and Partners in Algeria – Dr. Arslan Chikhaoui

The sixth iteration of the NESA Alumni Virtual Interview Series features a discussion with Dr. Arslan Chikhaoui, Executive Chairman of the Algiers-based Nord-Sud Ventures Consultancy Center.  The conversation focuses on outside players and partners in Algeria within the context of so-called “great power competition”.  Dr. Arslan discusses the historic and current relations with the EU and Russia; relations with China amidst Covid-19 and its strategy of “health diplomacy”; and current relations with the United States following the relatively recent visits to Algiers by General Townsend, the Commander of U.S. AFRICOM, and former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper.  Finally, Dr. Arslan discusses the role of Algeria as outside player in North Africa and the Sahel regions.
